This palace is also known as Amba Vilas Mahal. The Mysore Palace was built by Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV in 1897 AD. At that time it was made of sandalwood, but it was damaged in an accident. Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and his mother Kampanan Jamni Devi entrusted the British architect Henry Irwin with the responsibility of building the second Mysore palace. The second palace was built in 1912.

At that time, 41.47 lakh rupees were spent on building this palace. The Mysore palace is 245 feet long and 156 feet wide.
